“Restart” by BNQT (pronounced “banquet”) tops this week’s Rock n Roll for Grownups chart. It is a supergroup of sorts, composed of five lead singers from other bands: Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, Fran Healy of Travis and Eric Pulido of Midlake.
In another side project, Vampire Weekend drummer Chris Tomson, recording under the moniker Dams of the West, moves up to #10 with “Tell The Truth.” Its opening verse could be a message for Arizonans:
Walked across the London Bridge to Havasu City
My heart knows its manmade but my mind thinks it’s pretty
When the lake was full it was a bold idea no doubt
The hubris remains but the water’s running out
Biggest mover for the second week in a row is “Hope The High Road” (#29 to #13) by former Drive-by Truckers guitarist Jason Isbell and his band The 400 Unit.
Top debut song is “In Cold Blood” (#45) by British indie favs Alt-J. Also new this week is “Don’t Leave Me Here” (#47), a collaboration between blues greats Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ (aka Kevin Moore); and “Got Soul” (#50) by Brooks Long & The Mad Dog, a song from last year that was re-released to radio this month.
