Note to wife:
Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad appears to have resumed using chemical weapons against his own people. Senators Marco Rubio of Florida and our own John McCain correctly called attention to the Trump administration’s hands-off position as a probable factor in Assad’s action. As McCain said, the regime must have been “encouraged to know that the United States is withdrawing” from the conflict. Perhaps not coincidentally, Trump’s and Tillerson’s comments echo the Russian position on Syria.
