Note to wife:
For some reason that really makes no sense, the presidential primary season kicks off in Iowa, where voters “caucus” to pick their candidates. The media and the politicians place great importance on the result because it is the first time people actually cast their vote (versus talking to a pollster).
But Iowa is not very representative of America, and is not really a good indicator of what is to follow in the months ahead as other states vote. Iowa is one of the whitest states in the country and its Republican voters typically select candidates cut from the same cloth — conservatives with strong Christian beliefs. In recent presidential election campaigns, Iowa’s GOP choices have not made it to the nomination, let alone to the general election in November.
