Note to wife:
When you’re the mightiest power on earth, you don’t need to get excited when a two-bit dictator makes threats against you. North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, like his father and grandfather before him, tries to make himself feel important by periodically “challenging” the U.S. to notice him.
Yes, North Korea appears now to have developed a greater nuclear capability, but if Kim decides to attack, the entire world understands that his country will be decimated. It isn’t necessary for President Trump to say so, upping the ante.
Previous presidents had the wisdom not engage in a shouting match with a schoolyard bully. But of course the current occupant of the White House can’t resist a tit-for-tat all-out war of words — whether it’s about TV ratings, his daughter’s fashion business or nuclear weapons.
Let’s hope our president smartens up about international leadership before provoking rhetoric that has disastrous consequences.
