Donald Trump excels in exploiting terror. Playing upon Americans’ various fears, he exaggerates them to project the image that he is being vigilant in keeping us safe. Never mind that the murder rate has dropped sharply over the past few decades. Or that no refugee admitted to the U.S. has killed anyone in a terrorist attack since 1980 when intense screening was put into place. He continues to say the opposite.
Most presidents seek to calm Americans so we can better face the threats. Trump seems bent on stirring up turmoil. He conducts his presidency like a TV show, which requires constant drama to keep people tuned in.
