Rock is dominating the metro Phoenix radio market, according to the latest Nielsen Audio ratings, as Hubbard Broadcasting racked up three of the top four stations in audience share.
Classic rock KSLX was the most popular station for the fifth straight month. Active rock KUPD climbed to #2 and alternative rock “Alt” continued its impressive winning streak climbing to #4 with its highest numbers ever. The only laggard in the Hubbard rock stable is oldies KAZG, which inexplicably continues to dwell near the bottom (bad signal?).
Former longtime champ “K-E-Z” fell to #3, and classic hits KOOL dropped to #6. Talker KTAR rebounded into the top 10, as “Camel Country” dropped to #12, just ahead of rival KNIX. This marks one of the few times that country radio is not represented in the top 10.
Public radio KJZZ made a strong gain and placed at #11. The biggest increase in audience share was made by sports talk KMVP, which jumped from #23 to #17.
