‘Tis the season to be jolly if you’re “K-E-Z,” according to the latest Nielsen Audio radio ratings for metro Phoenix. Thanks to its annual switch to holiday music, 99.9 obliterated all others, scoring more than three times the audience share of its nearest competitor, KSLX. This performance matched the previous year’s record-setting pace, meaning we likely won’t see the end of yule tunes for many Christmases to come.
Typically, this December blizzard causes most other stations in the top 10 to lose ground, but this time several actually improved. “Camel Country” (#3) and “Que Buena” (#4) showed strong gains. “Live” actually lost audience share but climbed in the ranking, and KNIX ticked upward. Biggest losers: KOOL, KUPD, “Mix” and “The Mountain (KYOT), ” which fell to #11.
The Nielsen Audio ratings year is divided into 13 four-week periods, so the 13th “month” is called “Holiday” and covers December 1 through January 4. The top 10 stations:
