Classic hits KOOL has pulled into a tie with long-time leader “K-E-Z” according to the latest Nielsen Audio ratings for metro Phoenix. The surprising result occurred when the adult contemporary station experienced a sharp loss in audience share while KOOL showed an almost as big gain. The tie should be short-lived, however, because the next period will encompass the beginning of the annual “K-E-Z” switch to all-Christmas music — always a huge ratings winner.

Classic rock KSLX, tied for runner-up last time, slipped to #3, but just barely behind the co-leaders in audience share. There’s a big gap this month between the top three and all the other stations.

Coming in a distant fourth is active rock KUPD, up from #6. Talker KFYI lost some listeners and remained at #5, while rival KTAR fell out of the top 10.

Competitors KNIX and “Camel Country” both gained audience share and came in at #7 and #8, respectively. Top 40 “Kiss FM” edged back up to #10.
