Note to wife:
Donald Trump’s travel ban fulfills a campaign promise (though originally he said immigrants would need to pass a religious litmus test). His motivation may be genuine (security fears) but it sends a disturbing message to the world (and to Americans) about our values as an open society with religious freedom and equality. It’s reminiscent of when the U.S. imprisoned all Japanese-Americans during World War II.
Most of the refugees from these countries are women and children fleeing violence. A lengthy vetting process is already in place (hey, it’s worked so far). Even though the ban is suppose to be temporary, it has already caused major disruptions to international travel. Rather than enabling a better solution, this smacks of a publicity gimmick to satisfy his xenophobic supporters.
