Note to wife:
Sorry, honey, I know you’re trying to be health conscious, but where does it end? So much of today’s food labeling appears to be just a marketing gimmick.
For example, do you know what gluten is, beyond the fact that it’s suppose to be bad for you? Gluten is a grain protein that has been banished from some products because it irritates the small intestine of people with celeriac disease. Less than one-half of one percent of the U.S. population is estimated to have the disease, with the actual diagnosis rate at one in 1,400. Yet, it seems everyone on the bandwagon because it sounds healthy. Even some soda pop is labeled gluten-free. C’mon!
And what about “natural”? Did you know the Food and Drug Administration has no guidelines on what constitutes “natural”? Anything can be labeled “natural.” Natural cotton candy, anyone?
